BDHC walk report 9 March 2025 South Loch Tay

Loch Tay was shrouded in low mist when BDHC arrived at Kenmore and both parties of walkers started off wearing warm clothes including hats and gloves. However, the mist soon burned off and walkers discarded layers as they climbed in warm sunshine.
The A group (of 15 walkers) started at Acharn and headed south passing the hermit’s cave and the falls of Acharn. They continued uphill using tracks and faint paths to the NE spur of Beinn Bhreac, before heading south over rough, boggy ground to reach the summit of the Corbett, Creagan nan Beinne.
A smaller group enjoyed walking above Kenmore to the top of Creag an Fhudair (Kenmore Hill) and exploring the local path network, including parts of the Rob Roy Way.
The views over loch Tay to the Lawers range were stunning, especially early in the day when temperature inversion gave a mystical air and, later in the day, still reflections gave a mirror image of the mountains.
No other walkers on these walks but opportunities to see red kites, buzzards, golden plover, a few red grouse, red squirrels and numerous adult frogs swimming in puddles with large clumps of spawn. A special day in the hills rounded off with refreshments in the courtyard, Kenmore.
