It was early October, season of autumn mists when club members ventured to the Trossachs to climb Ben Venue. Starting from near Ledard farm by Loch Ard an area which Walter Scott brought into his novels Waverley and Rob Roy. Mist low down all the way from Blair but this soon cleared as we made our way in broadleaf woodland by the Ledard burn. Only 14 walkers so we all decided to do the A/B walk.

Welcome piece stop in the trees before setting off again to reach Bealach na h-Imriche, and the start of the “steep bit”! Although this hill is not classed as a Munro or Corbett it is a challenging hike with a narrow rocky path near the summit and several boggy sections.

The panorama at the summit rewarded walkers with “calendar shot views” over Loch Katrine and Loch Venacher. Sir Walter Scott again came to mind as we spied a tiny dot, the Lady of the Lake, making her way up Loch Katrine. Lunch on the summit in warm sunshine, enjoying splendid views. Thereafter we retraced steps to the bealach and then branched off southwards into Gleann Riabhach and forests to meet the coach. An excellent example of using coach transport to allow walkers to enjoy a through walk with a variety of scenery
